The Airborne Toxic Event: 11th Day of TATEmas

Words by Glen, Artwork by Shyra

On the eleventh day of TATEmas, Mikel gave to me:

eleven jumping monkeys

ten concert selfies

nine singing Chens

eight white dresses

seven Twitter rants

six jilted mermaids

five golden picks

four El Gran Burritos

three dueling drummers

two angel wings

and a bloody bird in a bare tree.

This piece is 8×10″. “A bunch of drawn monkeys that were cut out and glued on the canvas with the lyrics to ‘Moving On’ written in the background. ‘Nobody’s watching! You can all jump around like a bunch of fuckin’ monkeys!'” Comment below to enter to win this original artwork by Shyra Taylor. We’ll announce the winner tonight at 10pm Pacific Time.

Every spare moment she has, she spends in her studio listening to TATE and creating mixed media pieces using personal drawings, paints, pencils, papers – you name it. She enjoys finding ways to reuse/recycle different things in her works as well as collecting objects she finds in everyday places and odd spaces alike.

I hope the last one has Mikel yelling “go make some babies” that would be a fitting way to end the contest.

  11. I just want to say thank you to Shyra. It’s blatantly apparent that you put so much time, effort, creativity and heart into all of these pieces – and then offered them up for free! You’ve got a kind soul. Thank you for bringing so much holiday cheer to the TIN community.
